Upon arrival at La Tour du Chateau, start your sketching adventure off right with a Limoux sparking wine welcome in the garden overlooking the Canal du Midi. Sparkling wine was first discovered in the village of Limoux by monks… 150 years before Dom Perignon learned the process and took it back to the Champagne region! Enjoy a traditional apertif while Annette explains the exciting sketching program! For your first night you will enjoy a four-course gourmet dinner with specially selected Languedoc wines.

After breakfast, you will sketch in our very own Ventenac-en-Minervois! (By the way, Julius Caesar once owned land in this scenic village!) Enjoy your lunch at a local cafe. Next we will drive to Chateau l’Hospitalet, a vineyard owned by well-known and respected winemaker, Gerard Bertrand. Known as the “Prince of Languedoc,” Bertrand has 8 properties around the region that produce award-winning wines. We will visit l’Hospitalet located in La Clape, one of Occitanie’s cru appellations, for a tour and special wine tasting. Return to La Tour du Chateau for an apertif. Venture out to eat dinner at a local restaurant or prepare yourself a light supper.

Following breakfast, you will travel to Narbonne where you will use this beautiful city as your sketching backdrop. Narbonne was established in Gaul by the Romans in 118 BC. It was located on the Via Domitia, the first Roman road in Gaul, built at the time to connect Italy to Spain. You will enjoy your lunch at Les Halles, the famous indoor market that is a gastronomic heaven! Following lunch we will travel to an award-winning olive and olive oil cooperative. Learn about the long history of olives in France and sample delicious olives, including the Lucques, long considered to be the ultimate gourmet olive from the region. Also called the “green diamond,” it is a fleshy olive that is soft on the palate. Return to La Tour du Chateau to relax and enjoy an evening aperitif. Venture out to eat dinner at a local restaurant.

After breakfast, you will travel close to the Mediterranean Sea and connecting lagoons to the old, circular village of Gruissan. Overlooked by the Barberousse medieval tower, the village is also known for harvesting amazing salt. This is your third and final sketch location, where you can capture the essence of an old fishing village in your sketch book. Following a delicious lunch in Gruissan, return to La Tour du Chateau where you will work with trained chef Nathalie to learn how to prepare an amazing four-course French dinner. She will teach you new techniques, giving you a greater insight into how the local French really eat! For your final dinner, you will enjoy the fruits of your labor along with award-winning Languedoc wine!
